Evaluation
Patients with memory problems are strongly encouraged to have family members accompany them to visit the clinic. The Memory Clinic provides comprehensive evaluation of memory complaints. Typically, this includes an initial visit consisting of:
- History of current medical problems
- Medical history
- Neurological exam
- Brief test of memory and thinking abilities
Typically, a series of other tests are ordered that are necessary to complete the evaluation. These include:
- Routine lab testing
- Blood testing for specific genes
- Neuropsychological evaluation - detailed testing of memory and other thinking abilities
- MRI or CT scan of the brain

Consensus diagnosis and formulation of treatment plan
Results of these evaluations are reviewed at weekly case conferences involving the entire treatment team, i.e., neurology, neuropsychiatry, nursing, and psychiatry. The treatment team then arrives at a consensus diagnosis and develops a treatment plan.
Follow-up Appointment
A follow-up appointment with patients and their family members is arranged in which the diagnostic and treatment plan are discussed and plans are made for additional referrals and routine follow-up care.
